Many issues, but #1 is powered by right turn/brake.
A lot has been said about this product, which shows its popularity. As my simple Google image search result shows, their wiring will only give you a brake and right turn light. That's what the green wire on a four-pin trailer connection is for. WE WANT THE RUNNING LIGHT AND BRAKE LIGHT. This only has two pins because that's the basic requirement to create a circuit to power a light bulb. I Decided to install an LED then cut and splice into the brown running light after installing a Curt 7-pin to 4-pin splitter wiring harness bihind the bumper. Sounds complicated, but it was my first time, and it was easy. Ended up costing about $50 in all. *Needs an immediate LED replacement to avoid overheating, connecting wires are too short and come out the bottom (wouldn't even reach my trailer connection so just jam them through the hitch cavity if hardwiring), it's basic plastic, and the pin hole is too far back which makes it stick out too far. Definitely not made by truck owners.

Could be better, but there are ways to make it great!
My first one of these was a learning experience. Now I can tell you better how to use it. First of all, I wanted it to stay on all the time with my tail lights. So, I cut off the plug that came on it and got a small two prong connector from the parts store. One side I wired into my tag light wiring, and the other end I connected to the wires on the receiver cover. This also allowed me to reroute the wires through the back of the receiver cover and plug right into the other plug. Nice and clean. Unfortunately, this caused the problem of getting the thing too hot and it began to melt. At the time, LED bulbs were expensive and kinda rare, so I used some reflective repair tape along the inside of it and that solved that problem. It lasted right up until I backed into that car! Now I've just ordered another one, and I will be putting an LED bulb in it this time. Hope this helps!

Read the comments before you buy this.
Disappointed. The main wiring coming out should come straight out of the tube in the back to run through the hitch cavity, so the wire is hidden. It’s wired outside near the front of the hitch tube, and you have to leave the wires hanging. Not clearly thought out when designing this piece. Not to mention, the old hitch brake light I had before it broke, would light up with the rest of the lights, and brighten when you applied the breaks. Not sure why they made this one to just light up when you hit the breaks. Not a happy customer.

melted the light frame
I notified the company about what happen and they actually sent me a new hitch cover. I would buy from them again. They talked to the rep. by email and he was surprised about the light frame melting. Most likely it was defective.THE MOST IMPORTANT PART IF HOW THIS COMPANY HANDLED THE PROBLEM.Thanks guys for sending me a new hitch cover.Satisfied customer.

Lights up bright I like everything about it. I gave for stars only because when I went to hook it up the wiring that plugs into the hitch wasn't long enough to reach the factory plugin by about 2 inches how can it be too short? either everyone who's ordered this has to modify it to work or my truck is just different than all others ? easy fix just shoudn't be an issue to begin with

2yrs 3 months and still going strong! No complaints!
Just bought it recently and put it on same day on my 2018 Chevy Colorado. Took maybe 5min. It BARELY was long enough to be plugged in but it worked. So far I love it! Looks good! It works when the brakes are pressed. I do recommend this product!Update: 2 years and 3 months later it still works!

Don't buy this. The conncetion cord is too short for newer model Ram trucks.
The Connection cord is too short to plug into my trailer outlet, that is now next to the license plate, not next to the receiver hitch. I feel the seller misrepresented this product. It does NOT fit my 2015 Ram 1500! I would like to get my money back.

Very Suprised by quality
Normally I get really great products from Amazon,This one really surprised me.1st, yes it did fit and looked as advertised, but when I went to connect itI found the cable supplied was apprx. 2-3 inches to short and had to go purchase an extender to plug it in.Then after about a week or so of use I removed so I could install my normal trailer hitch and noticed that the entire unit at the top had melted from the heat of the bulb.So either too large a bulb was installed or the plastic that it was made from would not handle the heat from a tail light bulb.I couldn't return as it was melted so I will look for a different model at some point.Poss. an led version as they do not heat up.

Cool light
Bought this at Xmas 2019, liked it and worked great on wives Ram. Stoplight and right signal but not left signal. After the winter I noticed a lot of gravel and sand in the unit. At that time I did not realize that you can take the Ram cover off fairly easy with a flathead. So shook at much debris out and siliconed the openings where the wires go in.So now in June it burned out. Opened it up and realized it’s a regular 1157 bulb in there, thought it was LED. The heat of the bulb melted the gasket and also melted the plastic around the lightbulb a bit. It’s a bajonet mount so gonna buy a 1057 LED bulb and stick it in there. Then silicone all the connection so no grime can get in. I would by one again though if I wanted a new one and change everything right from the start. Also I would change the 2 prong connector to a four prong and add a wire so the left signal works too.Cool lightUpdate. Cut the original 2 wire connector off and installed a 4 wire connector. White goes to whiteThe green wire on the unit connected to the green and yellow on the four prong. Discarded the brown wire (lights) on the 4 prong. Now both left and right signal work and off course the brakes. Also received my 1157 led and works great

Not recommended
The wiring harness was to short to reach the plug-in. I had to reverse the positioning of the light assembly simply to have enough wiring to reach the plug in, which is still very short.vWorth spending a little more for a product that will actually fit!

not worth it..
I bought this for my boyfriend birthday because he really wanted it ... its too late to return it now or else I would ask for a refund... the package came like it was already opened... and when I did open it there are small hairline scratches all over it... not really worth the buy in my opinion....It looks really cute but I wouldn't buy again !

Very nice RAM hitch cover/light
As others have mentioned the cord is too short, but thankfully my Dad was able to extend it. Looks great both in daylight and at night with the light on (it comes on with brake lights and also will blink when right signal light is on). Bought this as a Xmas gift for my brother and he loves it for his Dodge Ram Longhorn!

Cheap Plastic and chord to short
Seriously disappointed. Something that is supposedly designed for a ram truck, but doesn't fit properly??Was even more annoyed when I walked through Canadian Tire ands the same thing $5 cheaper...my bad.
