Use iPhone 4/4s to "scan" negatives, slides and photos!
The iPics2go is really great for people that have progressed with technology but still have a shoebox of negatives from the "old days" when they used 35mm film. Or people that inherited said shoebox filled with slides from their parents. The colors are a little dull but it is still really great and doesn't need to be plugged in. It uses batteries so you can move around your house as you're "scanning". I use the quotations around scanning because you're only taking a picture with your iPhone, not really scanning. Now i will try to explain the magic! The iPics2go uses a light to illuminate your image inside a tray placed in a box. From there, you place your phone in a holder to keep your phone steady and placed directly above your image. Due to this, you're limited to the quality (which is pretty awesome) of your iPhone's camera. You can also download the free app you need to convert your negative images to positive images. So far the only drawback, for me, has been time and the fact that you cannot do 5x7" photos. The time is obvious, every image need to be placed in the holder and centered before clicking your phone (duh!). I was hoping, even though it did not specify on the box, that I could find a way to do all my 5x7" pics. No! Short of trimming the actual photos there is no way to use this device with 5x7" images. *sigh*All said and done, this is a really nifty device! Very worth the $29.99 I paid for it!

Silly but Exactly what we needed
I have an expensive flat-bed scanner that my wife refuses to use. She wanted to put old photos online and I caught her using her iphone to take pictures of the pictures. They wouldn't behave and she had glare issues. I bought her this light box and it greatly improved the picture quality due to the even lighting inside. For what this is, it is an excellent deal and works great. We didn't test slides, just prints.

Trash.
This is not worth the box it's shipped in. I wanted to scan a bunch of slides for my mom's birthday, and it just doesn't work. I was trying to save money and hoped this would work, but nope. The quality is so bad that you can barely make out the picture. Really just a piece of junk. I ended up buying a scanner with a slide scanning attachment for about $100. More expensive, but the results were beautiful. Don't waste your money on this. I threw away the box, otherwise I'd return it.

I was disappointed.
I lime this concept however, I was disappointed in the quality of the scans. Basically what this device does is it takes a picture of your negative, slide or print unfortunately when I scanned negatives and slide, they are not sharp (somewhat out of focus) and they pick up a lot of grain. The software could use noise reduction capabilities. When I scanned color negatives, the color was way off. It looked like I shot them with a toy camera and no amount of photoshop work could restore them to acceptable results.Black and white negatives ended red and color prints had glare and hot spots on the.One footnote is that I did get pretty decent results scanning Kodachrome slides.

Disappointment
First the good: Battery powered portability, LED lighting for long life, good resolution on prints. The enclosed case limits reflections that would normally be seen by just straight coping of prints in the open. Limited ability to hold prints flat during copying.Six white LED's light up the print, and shine through the slides. A white background ensures good lighting for the slides. Color reproduction is is true.Reasonable editing provided by the software, but I tend to use the iPhone's standard editor, or occasionally iPhoto as they offer more options. The bad: the resolution for slides and negatives is disappointing. The slide does not fill the screen and therefore does not take full advantage of the iPhone's excellent optics and pixel count, which was my interest. Also, slides have to be entered one at a time, so the system not for high production work.I add it to my list of "also ran" slide coping devices. So far, I'm only happy with lens adapters for my SLR.This is strictly compatible with iPhone 4/4s. Future phone form factors may not be compatible.

Ion ipics 2 GO Photo & slide Scanner for 4/4S phones
I just got the scanner "BOX" a couple of days ago. It took longer than the printer to get, but I think itis the perfect combination to the Cube Printer.(A 2 sided tray on one side is for 3 1/2"x5" other side 4"x6" prints and a carrier for slides and negatives. 2 AA batteries comes in the box.) What you have here is a photo Box that gives your iPhone the ability to photograph 3 1/2"x5" or 4"x6" pictures, or slides and negatives. You put in a 4"x6" photo, then you put your iPhone on top of the unit. You push the button for the light in side the box, put your photo into the tray (Using software you download) and you see it on your phone display. The key they worked out is the distance from iPhone to image, so you don't need to worry about anything not being aligned or movement of your hand when you are shooting your images. The light has a good enough color to make your images look somewhat balanced, but you have the ability to balance them through the software on the iPhone. Right after you shoot and review your shoot you can put the iPhone on the Cube printer and have a picture in less time then it takes me to do on my professional equipment. I don't have to much hope for the slides or negatives looking too good, cause my slide scanner is true resolution of 3800 DPI and it is a pretty good one for small slides and negatives. I don't think the iPhone is that fine up close, but I will review it soon.Dan

Repurpose your iphone4/4s!
The unit itself is pretty cool but exclusively designed for the iphone4/s. It's the software app that is the star of the show! it converts a negative to a photo and allows you to edit, save and share in mere seconds! How cool is that? My retired iphone4 is back in business!

I've tried for years to find a good way to scan the thousands of old slides I have. This is by far the fastest and easiest one to use and the quality of the scans are very good.

This is a good bit of kit for the money
This is a good bit of kit for the money. If you want to quickly copy and transfer old paper photos to a hard drive and likewise for old negatives it works. Agree the image crops from the original and may not be as fine as a scanner. However, far quicker than scanning and a lot less hassle. For what I wanted it is great.
