Very good second entry in this series
This is the second book in the Peri Reed series. Trust me, it will not make a lot of sense unless you have already read the first book, 'The Drafter'. This series has an interesting take on the 'unreliable narrator' concept. Peri has a special talent, but using that talent causes her to have problems with her memory. She is a 'drafter', who can rewrite short periods of time. This talent has allowed her to be a spy/thief/secret agent for a quasi-governmental agency. However, the act of rewriting time causes issues with memory and sanity, so she has to rely on other people to anchor her reality. As it turns out, she relied on the wrong people, and now has major gaps in her memory.Peri is trying to start a new life now that she has left the agency she used to work for. She is at loose ends, hiding from people in her former life and trying to figure out what to do next. She misses the excitement, glamour, and money of her previous life, but wants to be in control of her life and not vulnerable to other people controlling her reality. As events unfold and she is drawn back into old conflicts with new and old players, this conflict comes to the core. New medical technology might allow her to use her drafting talent without losing her memory, but it comes at a high price.I enjoyed this book very much. I liked some of the new characters, and getting to know some of the supporting characters better. Overall I think this was a solid addition to the series. While setting up good opportunities for future action, it was a self contained story arc and made me want to continue reading more books in this series.

Because it's Kim Harrison
Because it's a Kim Harrison story; I gave it 4 stars. I remain of the opinion that this new Detroit based world needs magic beyond this time rewrite thing. Originally, I had thought to be true when I read the Peri/Rachel Short Story. Here again, I thought maybe I was being overly critical, and then I read the preview of The Turn. The differences in the feel of the worlds was simply amazing. The Hollows world as set forth in the words of Ms. Harrison has no equal. The Detroit world simply doesn't have the depth and range of feel within the words. It's like the comparison drawn between Peri and Michael, where Michael has a longer effect period where the number of seconds of time he can change is greater, but Peri's range of effect is a half a mile while Michael is much less. Then the Jack, is he real or is he not, just gets annoying trying to get it and keep it lined out right throughout each scene. I wanted to like LB and his crew, but there just wasn't a lot of connection created there. So in the end this reads much more like sci-fi than paranormal and as always magic trumps physics; although both are essentially the same. So, I remain a huge fan of Ms Harrison and her works, and am sorry to have to report that this novel was a bit of a let down. I am truely looking forward to reading the upcoming Turn novel and others that may arise. Thanks for the stories and keep them coming.

Addicting Read
Peri has forgotten her past again and will need help to rebuild some of it to take down the agency for whom she once worked. She explores the idea of a drug that could save her from betrayal, keep her from memory loss, and allow her to time jump as she always has. Like everything, it comes at a price. Whether she is willing to pay that price is the question. This book is a rollercoaster of deception, emotion and trust issues. When you can't remember parts of your life, it's difficult to know who's on your side, but Peri has great intuition, and it speaks to her, sometimes literally. The confusion that situation sometimes adds is hilarious, but sometimes it's stressful. Thankfully, the loyalty she engenders from friends and strangers alike comes in handy. I enjoy Peri's stories. She's strong while being flawed. Writing flawed characters while staying true to the character is something I think Kim Harrison does an excellent job of exploring without letting the characters or the readers down.I look forward to book three of this series; it will be a difficult wait!Be sure to read the Drafter before reading this book. Kim is great at seeding details about her previous book/s into current ones. Everything makes so much more sense if you read The Drafter, and its short story addition of Side Swiped which was a cool snapshot of Silas's life.

Endless run, hide, trapped, escape adventure for Peri.
Second full length novel in this series. You really need to have read the previous, especially the novella because it has Peri and Silas history in it, or you will be basically lost. Lots of action in this and Peri dealing with her unremembered past. She has opened her own coffee internet cafe and stay in hiding until she's discovered by her previous boss, at that point all hell breaks loose while she tries to escape. Who do you trust when so much of your past has been wiped?Could be the last in this series? Ms Harrison has tied most of the story up and Peri is in a good space at the end. Very different series for this writer more sci-fi than paranormal, I enjoyed it.

Where is book three?
I loved these books, even the short story Waylaid, but Ive been waiting YEARS for the final third book! It was supposed to be a trilogy. I feel a little betrayed that those of us who invested our time and money into the first two books, have been left hanging without a true ending! What happened? Will we EVER know? Unless you don't mind being left in the dark, I'm not sure if I can give this the five star recommendation I would otherwise be happy to give it. I guess I would just say be aware and informed and make your own decsion...a great two thirds of an original story but no true ending...yet!

Phenomenal
As always Kim Harrison brings me into her world of wonder and excitement. With a pace that draws you in until your good and hooked, the second Peri Reed Chronicles is just as good if not better than the first. Read it. You won't be disappointed.

The Operator
Really enjoyed reading this book! I do advice to read book 1 prior, as otherwise most of the story simply won't make sense. It's a completely different kind of book then the Hollows series but absolutely worth reading! A++
