Good
Very good illustrated publishing. The pictures are a great source of seeing what's going on. It was published 20 years ago however. It doesn't seem much has changed but I can think of two other manuels that have been updated recently. I will say however she does mention using some techniques outlined in other books, and her success and failures at any other processes used. And she builds her stapleless whereas GG' s book is staples and the New bible has been updated as stapleless techniques. Nicks dvd is staples and they are noticeable. Her fiberglassing section alone 8s worth the buy

My husband's favorite wood strip canoe building book. Beautifully illustrated.

My favorite canoe book
The downside to this book is that it doesn't cover lofting really at all, so you'll need another book for that (Buehler and Schade have some excellent guides to that aspect). This, however, has a really nice, illustrated, comprehensive description of what it looks like to build a strip canoe. It covers material and tool choices in more and better detail than most other books, and, aside from working up the plans, provides and excellent understanding of the design and construction of wooden canoes. I have several boatbuilding books, but this is one of only two that I keep in my shop.

Build great looking canoes!
She really knows her stuff. She has inspired me to build my own canoe. In this book she uses photos to help show you how to put things together. The only area I am unsure about if fiber glassing the hull. The products involved are expensive and they are rather complicated to apply. But since she did it and had success I figure I can too. Just follow the instructions for the chemicals you will be using. Even if you mess up you can always paint it. Ha Ha!

Super "How-to" on Stripwood Canoe Building
This book will give you the confidence to tackle your first stripwood boat project, guaranteed. Susan takes you methodically through each and every step of the process of building a stripwood canoe. She presents alternate methodologies of construction and woodworking that are tempered by knowledge and experience. I have two references at my side while building my Whitehall Pulling Boat - this book and Susan's latest work on building stripwood row boats. Other than the plans for my boat and the occasional advice of experts at The Newfound Woodworks where I got my plans, these books are all you need.

Great detail.
This book goes into great detail about canoe strip construction. One thing that bothers me is that the print is super small and difficult to read and I have good vision.

and this one is by far the best illustrated and very descriptive book on the subject
I now have almost all the books available on strip canoes, and this one is by far the best illustrated and very descriptive book on the subject. If your going to attempt to build a strip canoe this is definitely a book you will never regret buying!
