Optigrow Air Root Pruning Pots are an innovative new design of plant pot that increases plant growth and decreases the need for re-potting. The novel, perforated ‘egg-carton' like construction deflects the growing root tips into holes in the side wall and thence into the air. This stops their growth and prevents roots from spiralling around the pot sides and becoming “pot bound”. In response to this “air pruning”, the plant sends out more lateral roots forming a healthier, highly branched root system, that takes advantage of every bit of space in the pot. Plants grow faster and require smaller pots for any given plant size, meaning less work and larger healthier plants. To plant out or pot on the plant, simply remove the fastening screws and unwrap the pot from around the plant, minimising disturbance to the rootball and revealing roots outspread and non spiralled. Plants therefore transition, without the usual set back associated with re-potting or planting out from standard pots. The pots are also excellent tools for easily creating your own bonsai plants; the innovative air pruning system means the roots are pruned, resulting in the gradual miniaturisation of the plants' leaves, branches and trunk, and so over time, the plant will bonsai itself whilst remaining healthy. The pots come in kits with walls, bases and fastening screws and can be assembled in seconds with no need for tools and filled with your desired potting medium. They are made from high-density polyethylene (HDPE) with an ultraviolet protective screen that allows them to be re-used time and time again. At our nursery in Ireland, Derry Duff have been using these pots for several years with such positive results that we have now adopted Optigrow pots as standard. Optigrow pots are available in sizes of 3.9 litres, 7 litres, 10 litres, 12 litres, 19.5 litres, 30 litres, 40 litres and 53 litres.

Excellent Pot, definitely recommend it
I am amazed by this wonderful invention. It is very easy to put together, it does take a lot of soil but can hold a really large plant, aeration and water egress is so good for the plant, I have a hop bine in mine and together they love each other. I will buy another when I need it, I am that impressed. I haven't yet needed to prune my so far baby hop, but when the roots pop through the holes, then they can be easily snipped.

Everyone should use these re-useable pots
These are brilliant. Saw them on Gardeners World but they never explained the advantages. I got a shrub in them once before but could never find out where to get them. The roots don't go round and round the pot but grow outwards to the holes so you get a much better take up when you plant them out. Then you can undo the blue screws so they can be stored flat unlike conventional pots. They also seem more stable in the wind than tapered shaped pots. It's good to see an organic seller like Derry Duff Organics helping to prevent one-off use of plastic pots. Everyone should use them!

Great product!
Great product - easy to use. It was easy to assemble - I looked on the Derry Duff Organics site and watched their video on how to put it together (I actually had mine the wrong way round - kind of inside out!). Happy to buy again! Also easy to store as they are flat until you need to assemble them.

Very clever product
I’ve dealt with Derry Duff Organics directly before and these pots have transformed my growing practices. I’ve been amazed at how much stronger and healthier my trees are compared to the pots I used to use. When planting out, you can see that there is no root spiralling - it is amazing. And the trees hardly seem to notice being re-planted - this is a complete revolution in my tree growing. It’s much more convenient that these pots are now available on Amazon. Great product, great company.

I use these air pruning pots to grow tomatoes and definitely get a better result. The smaller sizes are very good for starting off plants (or in my case vegetables) then moving on to the bigger size as it doesn't damage the root system so much. Also very handy to be able to flatten them and stack them when not in use. I'm delighted with my purchase and will be buying more in coming months for other plants. Thank you Derry Duff Organics.

Fntastic product
An absolutely fantastic product. I've just planted a tree in my optigrow pot. My garden is far too small for another tree but using this system (the air pruning) I can keep it small and manageable for years. Looks good too. Highly recommend not just this pot but this company too. Prompt delivery - & all in order.
