Beautiful Collection of Stories, Poetry, and Visual Art
This book is a lovely collection of stories, poetry, and visual art. I was not the intended audience of this book, but I still found it so moving, full of amazing works of art by amazing writers and artists. A great gift for teens who are just learning how powerful seemingly "small" acts can be.

Tales For Teens of Today
I am so happy that YA short story anthologies like Take The Mic are being published. As a high school teacher at an alternative school, I eagerly awaited each new thematic YA anthology edited by Don Gallo. The stories were just the right length and resonated more with my students than "classic" short stories did. Most anthologies are a mixed bag and so it is with Take The Mic. I liked "As You Were", the story by editor Bethany Morrow, although it was hard to believe that the witnesses to the final scene were blind to the main character's horrific reaction. "Aurora Rising" was timely and played out with subtlety and finesse. "The Real Ones" is a story I would love to share with students since social-media driven "girl fights" are a big problem at my school.Overall, there are enough quality stories and variety of topics here to appeal to most junior high and high school students.Recommended

great anthology
I have mixed feelings about this book. I usually love anthologies and this one is all about resistance! But oof... I didn't like most of the stories, some of them were just okay, writing didn't work, or the tone. The stories that saved this anthology for me:*Aurora Rising by Yamile Saied Mendez. all about standing up against your friends, stepping out of your quiet life to defend your community and family. i really like Yamile's writing and the hint of growing romance.*As Your Were by Bethany C. Morrow. freaking amazing and breathtaking read, a cute romance taking a terrifying turn. the power of that last paragraph!*The Real Ones by Sofia Quintero. hands down, my favorite. the power of destroying girl hate and laughing at dumb boys. we stan stories about sisterhood. This is not a book I would necessarily reread, but I'm glad I read it.
